Yuri Olhovsky is a Certified Home Inspector in Toronto. He founded Home Inspections 4U in 2001. Yuri was born and raised in Ukraine where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He worked in industrial construction for more than 25 years. Since 1994 Yuri resides in the city of Richmond Hill. In 2002 Yuri graduated from Humber college Home Inspection certificate program with Honours. Since then he conducts residential and commercial home inspections full time. CERTIFIED HOME INSPECTOR
Licensing and regulation for home inspectors in Ontario is presently under development. In the meantime there are some proven credentials of inspector’s competence. One of them is a voluntary certification obtained from the National Home Inspectors Certification Council (NHICC). This certification is based on the national standards developed in collaboration of private and government entities known as Canadian Home Inspectors and Building Officials (CHIBO) initiative. To become a National Home Inspector (NHI) a successful candidate is required to have a verifiable educational background and pass a rigorous Test Inspection with Peer Review (TIPR). The NHI designation is completely independent from any association affiliation and is equally opened to all home inspectors across Canada. Yuri is a member in good standing of International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI). He holds designation of Certified Master Inspector (CMI), the highest designation for Certified home inspectors.
Yuri Olhovsky received training in Defect Recognition by Ontario Association of Home Inspectors and Building Code fundamentals by the Ministry of Housing and Ontario Building Officials Association. In addition his building science courses include construction of R-2000 homes from Ontario Home Builders Association and ENERGY STAR homes from EnerQuality Corporation.
ENERGY ADVISOR TRAINING
Due to an increased interest and growing popularity of renewable energy Yuri Olhovsky received training in design, maintenance and installation of the Solar Hot Water Systems delivered by Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA)
By the same token Yuri completed a full course of studies in residential ventilation, air systems design, heat loss and heat gain calculations, combo systems and commissioning at Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI). After successfully passing a final exam with the highest grade he achieved a designation of RASDT – Residential Air Systems Design Technician.
Yuri is a Certified Energy Advisor (CEA) with Natural Resources Canada and provides valuable advice to the homeowners not only on raising energy efficiency of their homes but also on reduction of the energy loss, improving comfort and helping the environment.
With more stringent requirements for the energy efficiency of new homes in 2012 Ontario Building Code it is equally important to ensure that new homes are built to the highest standards of energy efficiency and design. Yuri Olhovsky is a Certified ENERGY STAR evaluator and Green House consultant for new home builders. He received a special training from Sustainable Buildings Canada in use of the EE4 energy simulation software for mid-rise and multi-units commercial buildings constructed to the top requirements of Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design (LEED) in Canada.
As a Registered Expert in North American “All Experts” directory, Yuri volunteers his time to resolve various energy efficiency issues and concerns.
INDOOR AIR QUALITY TRAINING
With the substantial amount of time that people spend in their homes Indoor Air Quality becomes extremely important, especially for people who suffer from asthma, allergies, migraines, etc. Yuri Olhovsky received an extensive training from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) as an IAQ investigator for mold recognition. He attended courses in ProLab, one of the largest testing facilities in North America, and became an IAQ specialist for mold sampling and testing. He is a member of International Association of Indoor Air Consultants.
Yuri is a Certified Level 1 Thermographer. He received his training from the SNELL Group – the largest educational provider in the field of thermography. There is a number of inspectors who own IR thermal cameras. It is not difficult to learn how to use the camera. However it is extremely important to know how to interpret thermal images. Nevertheless many inspectors with thermal cameras do not have any formal IR education. Level 1 is a first step for anyone involved in thermography to understand and correctly interpret IR scans. As a matter of fact even the most expensive equipment will deliver erroneous results without a proper training of the operator.
